The Genuines formed in April 1986 and came to the public attention in the same month at the legendary Jamesons venue in Commissioner Street, Johannesburg, South Africa. Prior to the formation, all the musicians involved had been exposed to many different styles of music, from cabaret, dinner music, and traditional to rock funk jazz fusion, pop, experimental, and punk. Consequently, when composing there is a vast array of musical ingredients available, allowing their music to be enjoyed by the most diverse of audiences. ‘Goema’ their incredible debut album was released on the 6th of August 1986.
